In My Way To Be Free: Time to Release the First Book
Creativity and Emotional Headspace
Since I decided to put a collection of essays into a book, I’ve had trouble writing more. I’m holding on to every thought as if it’s precious.
Unfortunately, the more I hold onto thoughts without writing them down, the more they seem to get away from me.
There’s a constant drone in “creativity” culture that the best way to be creative is to create a lot. (see Jeremy Utley) I agree with all these messages, but I also need to make time to jot down all the ideas.
I had a few loose minutes chatting with my wife the other day and laid out the plot of a trilogy that’s been in my head for a while. She suggested I write it down. Fiction is not my strong suit. One day when I have more time…
Wait. There it is.
“One day when I have more time.”
There’s my Fiction.
There’s a lie I tell myself. I’ll have the same time then as I have now. Same hours in a day. Maybe someday, the kids won’t need me as much. Work-life may leave me behind. But will I still have the same ideas and energy for the stories that are in my head now? Likely not.
